Local Search Data Providers: Fixing Incorrect Law Firm Information

So you've figured out the importance of local seo for your law firm. You've claimed your Google Places, Yahoo Local, Bing Local, BOTW, and Hot Frog profiles. But now you're seeing a problem. You're seeing duplicate listings or listings that contain the incorrect information for your firm. You're asking yourself how do I correct this information? In A Closer Look at the Local Search Data Providers David Mihm tells us why:

But many times, business owners have already done that and yet continue to see improper information displayed about their businesses, which understandably just adds to their frustration.

The reason this happens is that Google, Yahoo, and Bing---in addition to maintaining their own business databases---pull in business information from a variety of other sources. All three local search engines do the best they can to match the data that comes in from these other sources with what they have in their own index, but sometimes that doesn't happen properly. If the information is different enough, they might think it's a different business, or they might even feel that the wrong information appears SO many times in the other places that they get their data from, that it might actually be "right."

The battle to correct information about your law firm online can be an exhausting one. As you probably know, there are a multitude of business databases from which search engines pull data about your business. Here are some places to start:

  • Go to your Google Places profile and click through to all the citations listed on your profile. Make sure you have claimed any available profiles and corrected any incorrect information.
  • If you haven't done so yet, claim and update all the profiles listed at GetListed.org
  • Finally, if things are really out of hand, you should consider Localeze.com and UBL.org. These sites can submit your law firm's information to a variety of online business data providers.

We feel so strongly about these services that we build the cost of submitting your law firm's data into each of our law firm seo packages. Find out how we can help your firm with local search marketing efforts.

On Attribution

John Wanamaker supposedly said "Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don't know which half." In an an effort to figure out "what half is working," attribution was born. Coupled with a transition from traditional, offline ads to digital media, attribution became the holy grail for analyzing advertising spends. But […]

I asked ChatGPT to Recommend a Personal Injury Law Firm

I recently asked ChatGPT, "What are some of the top personal injury law firms in Chicago?? Actually, first I ask "who are some of the top personal injury lawyers in Chicago?" ChatGPT couldn't handle that one, so I modified the prompt. ChatGPT listed five very well-known firms downtown. Can you guess the other four? That's […]

Google Adds New SEO Best Practices for Links

If you know me, you know my opinions about links and SEO advice from Google. If you don't, here's the TL;DR: Meh, links! Meaning, all things being equal, links still remain a competitive difference maker for ranking. Take Google's SEO advice with several grains of salt. Google has no economic incentive to help your site […]
