This is a matchup between two of the most relied upon lawyer marketing strategies. These guys have been around a long time. Both have been heavily relied upon by lawyer for years. How they will fair in this competition remains to be seen. Let’s break down the match-up.
(2) Client Referrals:
Client referrals are one of the streakiest performers in the lawyer marketing arena. They can be one of the best sources of new business, when they show up. Their weakness has always been consistency. While many lawyers talk about the strength of their “word-of-mouth” referral network, many of those same lawyers aren’t actually aware of the performance of their client-referral network.
On the upside, building a strong client referral base is all about providing good service to existing clients, which should be a core pillar of your practice. That means that client referrals typically don’t have much additional cost over the cost of doing business.
With client referrals, the question will always remain, when will they show up?
(15) Yellow Pages:
At the fifteen seed, the yellow pages snuck into the tournament this year. While they have had great success in the past, in recent years, they have struggled to prove their effectiveness. Once everyone’s darling, the yellow pages have had trouble competing with their younger, more targeted opponents. Coupled with their high subscription costs, their performance is difficult to track.
On the other hand, there are many die-hard fans out there that still believe in “old yellow.” Will there strong fan support help them pull out the upset?
In the end, the numbers don’t lie. Consumer use of the yellow pages is waning. The high-cost subscription model just can’t compete with performance-based models. Look for client referrals to win this one handily.
