Are You Tracking Phone Calls by Source?

I’ve never understood lawyers who spend time and money on marketing and advertising their firms without tracking incoming phone calls by source. The technology is readily available and not even very difficult to implement. How else can you know how people are finding you?

Sure, you can ask potential clients how they found you. If they were referred to you by someone you know, it’s probably easy to connect the dots. But if they found you another way, without systems for tracking the source of inquiries, you’ll get answers like, “The internet,” or “The Google.” And maybe that’s “good enough” for you to justify your marketing efforts and advertising dollars.

But how reliable is that really?

Wouldn’t it be better to know more specifically how people are finding you so that you can adjust your efforts accordingly?

We’ve been really happy with Ifbyphone. Obviously, there are many other great choices too.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that are several situations in which using call tracking numbers can lead to long term problems in local search.

Of course, there are workarounds.

But no matter what marketing you’re doing, you should be focusing on goals. The days of blindly tossing cash into the marketing and advertising money pit are long over.
