One issue that looms large for many of our law firm clients is the location of their traffic. A criminal defense lawyer that only practices in New Jersey is most interested in generating new visitors in New Jersey. While visitors from other states can be valuable for building referral and other professional relationships, when it comes to new clients, they want results in New Jersey. So how can you tell where your visitors are coming from? Answer, your web analytics program.
Since we use google analytics, I’ll show you how to access this information from the google anlalytics interface.
First, click on the visitors tab. Next, click on map overlay. Finally, click on the United States on the map. Now simply scroll over your state. Your visitors from that state should appear there.
Keep in mind that this shows all visitors from the state. You may also want to click on new vs. returning and only view new visitors by state.
This is important to know when measuring the performance of your law firm Internet marketing efforts. Are you generating visitors from the locations you want clients? If not, a link in your web marketing chain may be broken.
If you’re targeting visitors in a certain location, be sure to incorporate geographic modifying key phrases in your content and in anchor text to links back to your website.
Also, make sure to check out GetListed.org and claim your various local business listings. The amount of highly targeted traffic that can be generated from these local business listings may really surprise you.
