Video can be such a powerful tool, but it can be a little daunting to get started. You hit record on your phone or computer but then you blank or the sound quality is terrible. Don’t let this stop you from getting your first video posted on your website or Youtube! Watch the video below for a short tutorial on how you can create your first video.
The first video to record should be an introduction. Who are you, what do you do and why do you do it? Then post that video to Youtube, embed it on your website or blog, and then share it on social media channels. Keep it short and simple, but make sure it shows who you are.
What can you use to get started?
- An external microphone will boost the sound quality. I have this one.
- A camera is of course, essential to creating videos. To start, a webcam or your smart phone’s camera can work just fine.
- A selfie light can do wonders for boosting video quality and making you look more polished and professional.
When it comes to creating videos, all you need to do is try. Try recording a short video and see what happens! It may feel strange to get started if you aren’t used to being on camera but with time and practice, you’ll start to get used to your voice and watching yourself on camera.

You want to try video, you think it’s really cool, how do you even get started? What’s the first video you should create? Definitely start with your introduction, who you are, what is your bio, your background, what do you want people to know about you, why is it that you do what you do? You can use all of these questions as the basis for a first video so that people can get to know you a little bit better before they even walk into your office, your law firm.
You’ve got your video decided, you have the idea that you want to do an introduction, a bio, you’re gonna listen to me, what can you even use to get started? This can be really simple, your videos do not have to be professional quality, they do not have to have a professional camera, a professional anything in order to get started. It could be helpful if you have the budget for it maybe spring for that you don’t and your marketing budget is a little bit smaller you can just do a few simple things. One, get a microphone from Amazon, Best Buy, wherever, I have this little cheap microphone it was $20, and it works pretty well. I just have it plugged into my computer and so I’m not even using a camera, I’m just using my computer. I’m actually using Soapbox which is a product from the video company Wistia, you can look it up, it’s really easy to just put on to your computer and then you can share your screen or you can just record yourself talking.
If you want to go a step further you could use your phone on your camera and create videos from there or you could get a DSLR camera. Those work really well, they have great video quality, but you’re also then going to have to have a separate microphone and video recording pack. It’s gonna get a little more complicated because you’re gonna need to get some software, you’re gonna need to sync things up so it’s great if you can just try it out and start off with a microphone, computer. One extra little secret that I like is I have a selfie light and I attach it to the top of my computer that adds a little bit of brightness just in case the room is a little bit dim and helps with the video quality as well.
Just a few tips on the very first video you can create and how to get started. I hope that you get started right away and if you have any questions definitely contact me, Kelly at AttorneySync.com, I’m always here to help.
