Once again, the folks at SearchEngineLand have really outdone themselves. Their Periodic Table of SEO Ranking Factors is descriptive, accurate, and just flat out cool (if you like this sort of thing):
The Periodic Table Of SEO Ranking Factors visually articulates several of what SELand deems (and many SEOs would agree) are the most critical things you can do to increase search engine visitor traffic. For law firms, this table makes understanding the core components of search engine optimization much easier.
The table breaks search engine optimization into four major groups of ranking factors. These are On The Page Ranking Factors, Off The Page Ranking Factors, Violations and Blocking. Each of those groups are then divided into several subgroups which contain one or more individual SEO factors.
I really like that content, research, and quality are listed among the most important elemental ranking factors. There are a lot of law firm search engine optimization firms that still put far too much emphasis on factors that just aren’t as important today as they were say 10 years ago.
It’s also very helpful that the table includes blocking and violation factors. These are areas that are typically difficult for those that are just getting into SEO to fully grasp. Especially since so many are selling on guaranteed rankings without regard to the peril that they placing on their clients’ sites.
I guess if I had to make one criticism, I would give Social a +3. Perhaps that’s a little too ambitious. However, I’m convinced that social signals are the future especially as we move into Web 3.0 and the age of expert content curation.
As an SEO consultant, finding ways to explain what SEO is and how it works is a constant challenge. We are constantly on the lookout for new analogies, descriptions, and of course visual aids. The Periodic Table of SEO Ranking Factors will no doubt become an essential arrow in the quivers of SEO consultants all over the world.
