Links, citations, likes, reviews, mentions, etc, all go into the "math soup" that search engines use to deliver sites in search results. Of course, not all of these algorithmic signals are weighted equally.
Nonetheless, we know that the more trusted information that search engines can "find" about your law firm online, generally speaking, the better chance you will appear in search results.
There's no way for me to tell you exactly which websites will be the most essential for marketing your firm. However, we do have a general sense of some the sites that are very popular online and to which search engines tend to give a bit of deference.
Here's a list of 100 websites to list your law firm on:
Obviously, merely listing your business information on these sites isn't likely to propel you to the top of search engine results pages for competitive searches. However, most of these sites should play some role in your organic search marketing activities.
Getting listings on some of these sites is likely to be more intuitive than on others.
It's also important to note that merely being listed on these sites is really just a start. You need to participate there. Which means publishing "stuff" that people are likely to find useful, helpful, educational, entertaining, etc.
In any event, these sites will be much more effective than the thousands of "SEO directories" that you're outsourcing to someone in India. More importantly, listings on these sites are unlikely to get you into trouble with search engines.
What sites are you using to list your law firm? Which of the sites above are you having a difficult time getting into? Feel free to ask below, maybe I can point you in the right direction.

Conrad and I recently joined Zack at Lawyerist to record a conversation about AI and marketing. You might think that we spend the whole time on how lawyers can use AI to publish content. You'd be wrong. While AI can certainly support publishing, there are many more interesting ways to use it in legal marketing. […]
As more legal services consumers turn to ChatGPT for local law firm recommendations, a fascinating intersection between AI, search, and maps unfolds. When law firms contact us, they usually want to talk: • PPC Ads • SEO Rankings • Lead Generation Very few want to talk: • Brand • Trust & Recognition • Emotional Connection Admittedly, much of this concerns that AttorneySync is known for lead generation across those common digital channels. If you’ve spent any time on LinkedIn, you’ve likely seen posts from law firm SEO experts showing off charts with an “up and to the right” trajectory. These screenshots, often pulled from tools like Semrush or Ahrefs, are meant to signal SEO success. And it’s not just the agencies celebrating—𝗹𝗮𝘄 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 […]
Meh, links! All things being equal, links still tend to move the dial more than any other factor in legal SERPs. Maybe links are having a diminishing impact internet-wide. But in my experience, quality links, especially relevant links (both topically and geographically), tend to improve law firm visibility in search more than most everything else. […]
